Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five the father of her was appointed as the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later to the historic mansion. In 2005, a Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate who is majoring in the area of vocal. Sullivan performed as the contralto singer for the youth choir, and in the years later she joined in the adults choir. Sullivan was not exposed secular music at first. "I started singing as a soloist in churches, and one of my friends was urging me to sign up for a gospel recording when I was 11. But I wasn't ready for it," she says. "Then the time came that McDonald's held a contest for children in cities of the world, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience responded really well". She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at 13. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. As a teenager, she was signed to Jive Records. The label recorded her entire album in Jive Records. However, it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was later dismissed by the label. She maintained a working relationship with Missy Elliott and produced some of the songs in her debut album like the huge hit track "Backstabbers" that was written and produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
